Loadout
Everything ASE did. Then some.
No ads, no account, no tracking. Just the tool you remember, written in fast native Rust.
Ping. Flux. PL.
Every server is pinged several times. You get the average, how much it jumps around and how many packets got lost. Pick the server that won't rubber-band.
The Tree
Game types as folders. Tick Mods, Maps, Kill Cam, PunkBuster, country. Build your own filters and color filters.
Double-click. Frag.
OpenASE launches the game with the right mod, your name and the password. Enter works too.
Where are my mates?
Friends tracked on every server you scan, in groups, with a ping when one starts playing. Find any player in a second.
Location
Country for every server and a country filter, from a free monthly GeoIP database. Play where the ping is.
LAN party mode
Special > LAN servers broadcasts on your network and lists every game server it hears. Plug in, play.
Favorites ×8
Favorites1 to 8 like the old days, recently joined, recently added, import and export server lists and your whole profile.
Auto-Search
Finds your installed games in the registry, Steam folders or a full disk sweep. Then it just works.
English & French
The whole interface comes in English and French. Options > General > Language, or let it follow your system.
Make it yours
Pick your toolbar buttons and the colors of the server list, with Quake color codes on or off. Options > Toolbar and Colors.
A sound per friend
Give each friend their own sound: the default one, none, or a .wav file (.wav playback is Windows-only).
Respawn
The servers never left.
The browser did. Thousands of servers are still up, run by communities that never stopped playing.
The All-Seeing Eye arrives. Every clan, every LAN party, every late night starts with its server list.
Yahoo buys it. The masters go dark one by one, and the Eye slowly closes.
OpenASE. Open source, live community masters, native and fast. The Eye opens again, for good this time.
RTFM
The manual.
Two minutes and you're in. Press F1 in OpenASE to land here.
Quick start
- Download the package for your system (Windows, Linux or macOS), unzip, run OpenASE. The setup wizard asks for your connection and your name.
- Click a game in the tree. OpenASE downloads the list and pings everything.
- Sort by Ping, tick filters (game type, mods, maps, Kill Cam, country...).
- Double-click a server, or press Enter. The game starts and connects.
- No game path yet? Tools > Options > Games > Auto-Search.
Keys
| F5 | Refresh the selected game or list |
| Enter | Join the selected server |
| Ctrl+E | Show the selected server |
| Ctrl+D | Clear every filter |
| Ctrl+Q | Collapse the whole tree |
| F1 | This manual |
Friends & lists
- Friends > Add friend: name (colors ignored, partial match), game, group Friends1 to 4.
- In the Friends window each friend can have a sound: default, none or a .wav file (.wav playback is Windows-only).
- Right-click a server: join, refresh, favorite, add to Favorites1 to 8, copy address.
- File > Import server list reads any text with
ip:portentries. - File > Export user profile saves everything to one JSON file.
Good to know
- Ping average round-trip, Flux its variation, PL lost packets.
- Filter > New filter builds rules like
players greater than 4. Tick “color filter” to highlight matches everywhere. - The Half-Life and Source game lists (Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic, Day of Defeat, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and more) need your free Steam Web API key in Options > General.
- Options > General > Language switches between English and French; "System" follows your OS.
- Options > Toolbar (or right-click the toolbar) chooses the toolbar buttons. Options > Colors sets the list background, alternating rows, selection and text, and turns Quake color codes on or off.
- Ghost Recon and The Sum of All Fears have no master server left: add their servers with Add server, or find them on your LAN.
- The Join command of many newer games is not tested with the game installed yet (issue 1).
- Settings live in
%APPDATA%\OpenASE.

FAQ
Questions & answers.
Is this the original All-Seeing Eye?
No. OpenASE is new code written from scratch, inspired by the original. It contains nothing from the Yahoo program and is not affiliated with Yahoo or the original authors.
Is it free? Any ads, accounts or tracking?
Free software under the GPL-3.0. No ads, no account. OpenASE talks to game master servers and game servers, downloads the DB-IP country database once a month (can be turned off) and checks GitHub for a new release (can be turned off). That's it.
Why do the Half-Life and Source games need a Steam key?
Valve shut down the old UDP master for the Half-Life games, and the Source games (Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch) never used it. The server list now comes from the Steam Web API, which needs a free personal key. Servers you add by hand work without one.
Linux? macOS?
Yes. Every release ships Windows, Linux (x64, AppImage or archive) and macOS (universal, Apple Silicon and Intel) builds, all tested in CI. On macOS the app is not notarized yet: right-click it and choose Open the first time. Your games still need to run on your system: ioquake3, Urban Terror, OpenArena, ET: Legacy, UT99 (OldUnreal) and CS 1.6 have native versions; Call of Duty needs Windows or Wine / Proton.
My game is missing.
Games live in one JSON file. If yours speaks the Quake 3, GameSpy or Valve query protocol and still has a live master, it is often a few lines. Open an issue on GitHub.
